Top 5 Soccer Fields in Charleston, SC

Top 5 Soccer Fields in Charleston, SC

Aug 11th, 2021 - soccer

Introduction

Although Charleston South Carolina does not have any major professional sports teams, the city and state are full of sports fanatics and you already know this if you’ve seen University of South Carolina or Clemson sports games; furthermore, if you’ve seen the work they’ve done on the Patriots Point Soccer Complex, the home of Charleston Battery (part of USL Championship), soccer is a big part of the community in Charleston. For the soccer lovers, the city has many options for a wide range of activities provided and available at local parks and facilities. We searched through locations in the islands of Charleston that are popular for playing soccer.

01. Ackerman Park

Ackerman Park in West Ashley is a great park with a wide open green space and athletic fields. Two soccer fields that are very well maintained located in the middle and handful of pickup soccer groups play small-sided games on weekday late afternoons. The fields don’t have lights, so many groups tend to play early morning on the weekends and early evening on weekdays. The park hours are casually stated to be from sunrise to sunset.

02. Bay View Soccer Complex

One of the biggest complexes for soccer in Charleston or even in South Carolina. The Bay View Soccer Complex has seven full fields and it is pretty much packed on weekend prime times for youth and adult soccer league games and activities. Fields are in great shape and players and visitors love the fact that the facilities include an active concession stand and clean bathrooms. One downside is that the parking lot is small, so it would be a good idea to be there early if you’re coming for a league game. The complex hours vary by season but it’s usually open from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm everyday.

03. Etiwan Park

Etiwan Park offers a central open field for soccer (or football), with some seating available. We’ve seen multiple pickup soccer groups schedule games for Friday and Sunday afternoons. The players love the sunset view from the soccer field. The downside at this park again is parking; there is no designated parking area. As for hours, we’ve figured out that many parks and fields in Charleston state that they are open casually from sunrise to sunset.

04. West Ashley Park

West Ashley Park is a hidden gem for Charleston people that love staying active. The park offers soccer fields, baseball/softball fields, biking trails, disc golf, kayaking and more. Plus, West Ashley Park provides lightings in the soccer fields, so night time games are available. The park and fields are well maintained and is also a popular spot for family picnics. The hours are from sunrise to whenever night games end (some visitors state that it’s usually 10:00 pm).

05. Gadsdenboro Park

Being conveniently located close to downtown Charleston, Gadsdenboro Park is an accessible park with a well maintained full sized pitch. We’ve realized that all the fields in Charleston are extremely clean, very green, and simply just pleasant. We’ve spotted a couple of groups playing pickup here on weekday and weekend mornings, so if you’re an early bird, those games could work for you. It's in close proximity to Charleston Harbor so there are a few glimpses of the water as well as the Ravenel Bridge from the park. Park hours aren’t stated specifically (again), but a regular visitor stated that it is from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm everyday.

Conclusion

The most distinct characteristic of the soccer fields in Charleston was that they really don’t have an open and close time stated, which got us thinking that perhaps it means it’s literally always opened for soccer. ENDALGO plans to work with active soccer teams and groups in the Charleston area to make local soccer information be more easy to access.
